About House Of Prime Rib

We do one dish exceptionally well--prime rib. House of Prime Rib sprawls over five rooms with comfy banquets, spacious tables, and fireplaces. There are two fresh fish dishes on the menu, but we have been known for fine prime rib since 1949.Gift Certificates available by phone or in person.

Step back in time - but up in quality

Posted byChappson 12/2/2009

It's ironic that I'm writing this review, seeing as I don't eat cow meat. Never developed a taste for it (blame my mother's cooking). But growing up in San Francisco, the House of Prime Rib was our meat-eating family's temple of taste. We had to dress up to go to HOPR, where all the mean wore ties and jackets. Me, I loved the salads - and I really hated salads. So that says something right there. And I would actually enjoy the prime rib and understand why my mother thought it was one of the basic food groups. Perfect service, too. And you know what? It hasn't changed. Still top quality, still great service. And I can't help it - I still go in a jacket (but no tie). It's that kind of place. The salads are still muy bueno, too, and the prime rib smells incredible. My dinner companions always make the appropriate ooos and ahhhs and nummy noises when we eat there. It's so great that this place has remained at the top of the restaurant pile in S.F. Now I just have to get over to Joe's, where I *will* eat meat in their Sloppy Joe's Special ... num!!

HOPR as we like to call it is ...

HOPR as we like to call it is a special place. Although I like my steak, prime rib is another thing. People cannot compare this to a steak house because Prime Rib is a different cut of beef and it is different from the rib eyes and NY steaks of the world. The place is always bustling but the service is impeccable. I really like how they always ask the girls first for their orders before the men as a courtesy. Their salad is fantastic and one of the best of any steakhouse. I am not a huge fan of the creamed spinach but that is personal preference. I go for the King Henry cut with the bone and the mashed potatoes. Everytime I go I am left satisfied and the price is reasonable. My cut, which is the largest cut is 35 dollars and that includes sides and the salad. Most other places you couldn't get a steak for less than 40 and that is with no sides at all. HOPR is the way to go!! Make sure you make reservations.

Exceptional Prime Rib

People that write negative reviews about this place, in my opinion, need help. Either they are not schooled in the art of prime rib eating, or they are over-schooled. Now that we got that out of the way.. Let's take a look at this place of wondrous meaty delight. You should for sure check out there videos here: http://www.415-885-460... especially the first video, which explains the 21-day process by which the meat s dry-aged in rock salt. Very interesting! I've got to say that sometimes the meat has been better than others, but overall, you can not beat the quality of meat for this price. It's an excellent independent Prime Rib joint that's been around since 1949. The place is absolutely charming and I hope to grow old eating there.

Don't Order the Fish!

If you want fish, this ain't your place. Old time SF hangout, this restaurant continues to deliver at a high level. Reservations a must. Best prime rib "value" around. Tasty, tasty. Bad place for a dieter.

EXCEPTIONAL!
