Built in preparation for the 1894 World's Fair, the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park is the oldest public Japanese garden in the United States. Featuring a myriad of serene ponds, meandering trails, decorative bridges and fine sculptures, the five-acre gardens also exhibit a vast array of native Chinese and Japanese plants, as well as a popular tea house. The gardens are located inside beautiful Golden Gate Park, just east of Stow Lake.
